Funny Hand Puppets to Soothe Your Back-Ache

March 15, 2014 By Christine 3 Comments

“My back hurts after sitting too long at the computer. My back aches after sleeping on that mattress. My back really bothers me after driving in rush-hour traffic.”

Sound like it might be you?

You were planning to spend this glorious Spring Weekend: Playing with your dog. Writing your break-out novel. Indulging in a Spring dinner celebrating new peas and earth vegetables. Instead, with this pain, you’re lying on the hard floor hoping to get the kinks out.  Your body’s risen up against you. You just became your own personal XBox One, and your back is the playing field.

The solution is at the end of your arms, but not like Davy Jones Octopus-Tentacle-Face.  If only you could look down to the end of your sleeves, enter the Magic Castle and vamoosh! back-ache away!

Biting The Hand That Feeds You

Why does your back hurt in the first place? We often get signals from our bodies that pain is on its way. How? You can feel restless, first. You can push away thoughts of taking a walk, or dancing in your office like you’ve seen some actor do in a TV-series. Your office = The Office on TV Show? Aren’t they just like each other, so – why not Dance!

Nah, you say, you just think those urges are excuses. You say those urges show up to divert you from getting your work done. But, the body’s little signals are often hints from yourself, that if you don’t move now, you’ll pay with pain later.

How often we listen to ourselves last!

How often do we listen to TV before we listen to ourselves!

If you pushed someone else, pushed them literally, as hard as you push yourself – to meet deadlines, goals, to finish up, that person would react in an unpleasant way. At very least, they’d push you back. Your body says, “I’m no less than that person. I’m pushing you back.”

Am I suggesting you should be lazy, and live entirely in a comfort zone as small as a sleeping bag? Of course not.

Think about this concept.

You, working alongside yourself, instead of against yourself. And in kahoots with you, your body is actually willing to whisper warnings to you beforehand!

But my back hurts NOW!

OK. Fair enough. But – Hold that thought!

You may as well hold it, as the pain certainly has you in its grips, right?

Do you remember being younger, like 5 or 7 years old. You’re making shapes with your hands. You’re doing this in front of a light source. It’s magic! It looks like bunnies and dogs and foxes – hands in shapes casting shadows against a wall? How about that brother who would make a bigger animal shadow in front of the lamp and gobble your animal up?

It’s simple. It’s in your hands.

The solution is bringing your fingers together in a simple and special way.

Crazy? That your body wouldn’t want to help your body? What team are you on, that you wouldn’t lie down for another on the team? Your body is exactly the same as you.

You can use parts of your physical body to help your body feel better. Your body that has caused you pain, and sent warnings about the pain, also has the tools to correct and ease the pain.

If your back hurts, your hands are ready to help.
in a smart way
in a way that with thousands of years behind it, we’ve figured out what works.

Funny Hand Puppets

The solution is bringing your fingers together in a simple and special way, that opens and/or releases the physical lock-downs that are stopping you from feeling great.

Palm faces up, Press thumb over first finger. Left Hand Mudra!
Palm faces up, Press thumb over first finger. Left Hand Mudra!

I’m showing you two pictures. You’re going to press a few of your fingers together, on each hand.

One picture is for the Left Hand and

One is for the Right Hand.

Do both pictures at the same time, and press for 3-4 minutes.

Palm faces up, Pads of Thumb, pinkie and middle finger press together. Right Hand Mudra!
Palm faces up, Pads of Thumb, pinkie and middle finger press together. Right Hand Mudra!

The Left Hand looks like an OK sign, palm up. The Right Hand looks like, oh, variations on having a good time, palm up. The pressure sends signals to your back to open up the blocks of pain. You should feel releasing in your back, quickly or at least, in a few minutes. If not, you’re likely just stubborn, but no worries! You simply repeat it a number of times that day.

In official terms, these are called Mudras, or like a calf calling MaMa to come help, “MOO-DRA”.

Special gifts our bodies give us to help us out in difficult times.

Look how beautiful your hands are.

Just another way we normal people can use the mysteries of energy to get back on track! I’d love to hear how this works for you in the comments below!

Hey Christine. Jagoda here from ABM to tell you how much I like this article. I have to practice the right hand mudra more–that one’s tricky. I like your conversational and humorous style–I feel invited into a safe place to try out your suggestions.

Hi, Christine. We took our kids to Cancun last week for Spring Break. After the long flight home, my back was killing me and your hand puppets really did the trick. Thanks!
